My June newsletter has just gone out to my mailing list subscribers and this month I am focusing very much on techniques and especially the importance of using the right techniques in a safe and effective way when working out in the newsletter.
There are a couple of reasons why I focus on techniques when I exercise with clients (and work out myself!). The first is that without using techniques correctly, the effectiveness of any fitness programme will be diminished. Instead, more energy will go into correcting poor and ineffective techniques, and the outcomes will be less than they could be.
The second reason is that if we do not correctly use the right techniques when working out we run the risk of injury when doing so. This can result in something as simple (if annoying) as a sore back or neck, or a more serious and debilitating injury that can worsen over time.
To avoid either of the above scenarios my advice is always to take time before exercising to practise the technique that is to be used without weights or resistance. Those big mirrors you see in most gyms? They are also your best friend in this regard and will help you get your techniques right and apply them correctly before moving on to the demanding part of the exercise in question.
Plus, keep an eye on those very same mirrors and what you are doing as seen in your reflection once you start the exercise proper. Be your own personal trainer!
Get your techniques right, then apply weights or resistance when you have done so, and you will have a safe and effective workout.
