My newsletter has just gone out to my mailing list subscribers. I send a newsletter out every month (you can sign-up for it on this very site!) and this month my thoughts have turned to the season of rest and relaxation that is advancing upon us.
For some, the Christmas and New Year celebrations can be a source of tension because of the emphasis at this time of year on rest, relaxation and indulgence, particularly where our diets are concerned. For myself, I don't feel these concerns. Instead, I look at this time of year as an opportunity for us to enjoy ourselves and to eat, drink and be merry. There is nothing wrong with appreciating the culinary delights of the season and perhaps (whisper it lightly) putting on a little weight as we do so.
The important thing is to appreciate a different rhythm and to step out of our usual routine for a short while (particularly after the year we have just had).
So, don't be consumed with guilt or worry as the wondrous foods and drinks of the season call.
Everything in proportion, of course, but enjoy what is on offer.
After all, we have earned this opportunity to do so, have we not?
