I am a fan of healthy food and cooking, as anyone who knows me will be aware.
For me, the two go together in terms of the rewards that they give. I like to consider what I am going to eat, select the ingredients, to cook and then enjoy my meals. Of course, I also enjoy eating out (or what others have cooked for me!), but as far as I am concerned the pleasure of a good meal partly comes from the thought and effort that goes into creating it in the first place.
Now, obviously cooking is not for everyone.
Some people neither have the time nor the inclination to cook every day, particularly at lunch or in the evening, and some struggle with the skills they think are required to cook well.
I find the latter concern a little odd because learning to cook (essentially through trial and error!) is also a pleasure and something which I encourage everyone to do as much as possible. This is because developing a skill such as cooking encourages independence and creativity, along with healthy eating.
Plus, it's fun.
And right now, when a lot of people have time and mental energy in abundance, it is probably the best time to pick up the cooking habit.
So, put down the remote control or the smartphone and join the home cooking boom while it is still popular. In the years to come, your body and mind will thank you for doing so.
